Meet Wayne Baker
Gausedis (Wayne Baker) was born and raised in the Squamish Nation where he continues to live with his family today. Coached by his Father and a star lacrosse player by his teens, Wayne went on to a successful professional lacrosse career playing in the National Indoor Lacrosse league for the Buffalo Renegades, the Vancouver Burrards of the Western Lacrosse League and winning 3 Senior A national championships with the North Shore Indians.
His acting career has seen him appear in Canadian television productions such as "North of 60", "DaVinci's Inquest", and "DaVinci's City Hall", along with television movies, various commercials and the feature films "Pathfinder" and the Emmy Award winning "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee".
Alongside his acting career, home renovations and new home construction have been a big part of Wayne's life for the last twenty five years. Most of the homes on the Capilano reserve were constructed by Wayne or his brothers. Uniquely qualified to host "Closer To Home", Wayne built his families first home in Furry Creek, BC.
"As host of Closer To Home I've had the honour and privilege to travel, meet and experience our people and our communities all across Canada. For all who have been kind enough to share their lives with me, thank you for allowing me to get closer to our home"
